On Saturday 19th of January 2008, 23 youngsters from Worksop & District A.A. made the short journey to Aston Park Fishery near Wales Bar, where despite several of the participants being of limited experience, they all managed to put a fair amount of fish in their keepnets.

Under the supervision of Garry and Doreen Butt, who are both N.F.A. registered coaches, the untiring efforts of the venue owner - Alex Mitchell, who passed on his own vast knowledge of the pond and the tactics required to catch fish, all the youngsters and their parents / carers had a fantastic day.

The top three weights in the two age groups were

Under 12s
1st Tom Allen 3lb 15oz.
2nd Elliot Marris 3lb 11oz.
3rd Micheal Tambourini 3lb 4oz.

Over 12s
1st Ben Frost 2lb 2oz
1st Devon Whitwhorth 2lb 2oz.
3rd Joel Potts 1lb 15oz.

Everybody agreed - the first practice session of 2008 was a roaring success - with many thanks going to Alex and his team for their hospitality and help on the day. The next trip is already at the planning stage!

As lots of you already know, Worksop & District.A.A. have been the most successful team nationwide over the last decade, with current junior world champion Matt Godfrey being a product of the Association's youth policy. On this note we would like to inform you that the cadets and juniors are looking for new recruits, for both age groups, aged between 9 years and 15 years of age, experience is not necessary, just an enthusiasm to partake in this great sport.

With classroom sessions, practice sessions as well as plenty of activities planned for the coming months, our top-tip is to contact Garry and Doreen on 01909 770546.
