England
Win for Lady Fly Fishers
What a catch: Susan with the trophy after England’s win
Bolsover-based fly-fisher Susan Sissons was a member of the successful
England team competing on Llyn Brenig in Wales.
Having captained the team to victory last year in Ireland, Susan took
her place in the 14-strong team this year to compete once again against
the women anglers of Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
The England team emerged victorious, narrowly beating the Welsh into
second place on their home water, with Scotland third and Ireland
fourth.
Susan’s eight caps to date have yielded six gold and two silver
medals – not a bad track record for her and the England team.
She was placed seventh overall and third in the England team on Llyn
Brenig which automatically qualifies her for her ninth successive
cap to be fished in England next year on Grafham water in Cambridgeshire
(the top four anglers create the core for the following year’s
team to retain experience).
Susan will also represent England in the Commonwealth Championships
to be held in Wales in September, which involves competing on the
River Dee.
She has already earned two caps in the England Ladies’ European
team, fishing the rivers of Poland last year and Sweden in 2004.
‘‘Rivers have been playing a larger part in my fishing
over the past three years and I would like to keep fishing on both
the reservoirs and rivers as long as I can for the England Ladies
team,’’ she said.
